Hallelujah!

What will happen in the future if we go on using technology as if it was toilet paper?
This question aroused in the class, as we were imagining a future without schools. Here are some clues to what might happen if we don't take recycling and sustainable consumption seriously.

8th March, International Women's Day
The celebration of this day is aimed to remind us that we are all equal, no matter if you are a boy or a girl. In order to do so, celebrate, I have found a cute song about a princess who didn't need a prince to be happy. We will work in class with the lyrics, which I copy bellow.
The princess who saved herself
There was a castle by a waterfall,
With a pink and purple wall,
And a princess living there.
She had no parents and was all alone,
She got by on her own,
And she liked it pretty well.
'Cause she never wore her socks,
She had a pet snake,
She bought a red (rad?) guitar,
And she ate a whole cake.
And there wasn't anybody there to tell her what to do,
So she did what she wanted to.
Everybody knew the story of the princess who saved herself.
(Princess who saved herself)
(Princess who saved herself)
There was a dragon with a pointy tail,
He was bigger than a whale,
And his breath was terrible.
He scared the princess when he came around,
Tried to burn the castle down,
But she caught him by his tail.
Then she tied him to a tree,
So the dragon couldn't fly,
She told him he was mean,
And it made the dragon cry.
When he finally apologized she offered him some tea,
He accepted it graciously.
Now he visits every weekend with the princess who saved herself.
(Princess who saved herself)
(Princess who saved herself)
(Phone ringing...)
-Hey beautiful! Prince Phillip
-Oh, hi, Pillip
-Yeah,… we met at the ball. I was the handsome one. I was wearing a…
-Hey Pillip, tell me if this sounds like a phone hanging up!
-Yeah, it totally does. Hello?????
(Phone ringing again...)
-Hello
-Fee, fi, fo, fum,… I smell the * (sound of telephone hanging up)
-Oh, come on!!!!
There was a witch who was an evil queen,
She was wrinkled, old and green,
And she hated everyone.
She saw the princess in her silver gown,
Put the poison apple down,
Asked her where she bought her clothes.
So they got the witch a dress,
Put some make-up on her face,
They started up a band,
And the dragon played the bass.
Every Saturday they play until their fingertips are sore,
Mostly Math Rock and Cuddle Core.
And they call themselves The Kingdom Of The Princess Who Saved Herself.
(Princess who saved herself)
(Princess who saved herself)
The princess who saved herself.
(Princess who saved herself)
(Princess who saved herself)
*"Fee-fi-fo-fum" is the first line of a rhyme used in the classic English fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk.
I also want to leave another song here. It was my second best, but it's still worth that you can enjoy it.

Aljibe
Remember long ago we talked about "aljibes" in the class? One of you said he had visited one of those cisterns. In Spain, the muslims built lots of them. These pictures are from one I saw in Cáceres. You can see an opening in the ceiling ("brocal" in Spanish) through which the water comes down into the cistern. At the back there are some stairs for people to go down and take the water, clean the walls, etc. The last image is of one cistern of this type. But there are many others!

How a T-shirt is made
These are the videos we watched this morning in the class. Remember my question?:
Why do you think companies in the US produce cotton and then send it to other countries to finish the production of T-shirts there?
What could be the reason to pay for the transport of the row materials and the machines for the factories?

Pronounciation of "alveoli"
Remember we were not quite sure about the pronounciation of the word "alveoli"? Even in the video of the respiratory system two different pronounciations of the word are used. Well, I have consulted an English Pronouncing Dictionary and both ways are correct. It seems, though, that /ælvi'ǝʊli:/ is less common

The Reproductive System
Here you have a video about fertilisation. Interesting information starts on minute 00:25. However, don't worry if you miss some words. The images are clear enough to illustrate what we talked about today in the class.

Carnival
Let's warm up for carnival. Here's one video about how to properly drape a Saree, a typical indian costume. Note the indian accent they have when they speak English!
Can you find more videos about other typical indian costumes? Please, make your suggestions! I'll be glad to publish any comment 😀

Here you are link to the documentary film "Descalzos". This was just a way to reflect on how easy our life is compared to the huge effort that children in other parts of the world have to do to achieve their aims, get opportunities and reach their dreams. Enjoy it!
Mandalas
This is one of your wishes comming true! The two videos of how to draw Mandalas that we watched in the class.
And also a little explanation of the meaning of Mandalas and what they are used for. And two different ways of applying Mandalas: images and using our bodies.
